RECOMMEND A BOOK BY A MALE AUTHOR
1. The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian by Sherman Alexie
This is my go-to recommendation for everyone. I recommend this book to random strangers in the book store or library, to every kid that walks into the library when I'm there, to every class that I teach.....well, you get the picture. This is one of the best books I've ever read. It's funny and poignant and it even has illustrations! I love this book!
2. Looking for Alaska by John Green
I just read this book this year and I'm so sad I waited as long as I did. The reason I like this book is because it has a lot of crossover appeal. John Green's voice is easy for teen boys to connect with and when I did read this book and the review went up on my Facebook page, several former students, all boys, told me how much they had enjoyed reading this book in high school. But, girls will definitely connect with it as well. I mean, I did. This is one of those books that can inspire discussion of life, the universe and everything.
